Mikell Farm was estabilshed in 1995 with the purchase of our farm.   Prior to that time Kelley had been teaching/training freelance at other farms or peoples homes.   After opening for lessons in the spring of 1996 things just took off.  We largely catered to the 4-H and open show riders. We stongly believe that the early years in horsemanship are the most important and strived to keep our rates competitive so that a wide variety of riders have the opportunity to start their riding careers on the right foot.   Over the years we have had students go on to compete at the rated shows including zone finals and breed shows.

Instruction

We teach both english and western.   We encourage students with their own horses to haul them in.  This gives you the best opportunity to learn with your horse.

Shows

Typically we do the local circuits.  We focus on having fun, learning with our horses and growing in our skills.  We try to do this without a huge price tag so that everyone that wants to show can.  We have very reasonable show rates.  Students are also encouraged to show on their own, we do not feel that a trainer needs to go to every show!

Sales

At Mikell farm we offer a variey of perfomance horses for both the english and western rider.  You will find a variety of prospects, show horses, and pleasure horses.

Training

We do offer some limited training/finishing and refresher courses for your horse. We do not start youngsters or take in any horses with less than 90 days of training.  We can recommend trainers to start your youngster.

Boarding

Mikell Farm does not accept permenant outside boarders, we do however do injury layups, or short term (up to 60 days)  emergency board.  The main reason for this is to have room available for lesson and sale horses.
